Blackhawks Secure Tight 3-1 Victory Over Golden Eagles LUMEN CHRISTI HIGH SCHOOL — The Leslie Blackhawks relied on a stellar pitching performance and timely hitting to grind out a 3-1 away victory against the Columbia Central Golden Eagles on Tuesday night in the opening round of the MHSAA State Tournament. Dominance on the Mound The story of the game was the masterful performance by starting pitcher, Jackson Fossitt (#17). Fossitt commanded the game through 6.1 innings, racking up an impressive 11 strikeouts while allowing only a single hit and zero earned runs. Easton Hawkins (#12) came on in relief to close the door in the 7th inning, needing just 8 pitches to secure the final two outs and seal the victory. Together, the Leslie pitching staff held Columbia Central to just one hit over 7 innings. Balanced Attack at the Plate While Columbia Central's pitching also racked up strikeouts, the Blackhawks' offense proved more potent, outhitting the Golden Eagles 9 to 1. Leslie's bats were spearheaded by Henry Bradford (#5), who had a phenomenal day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a stolen base. Tucker Newland (#2) also turned in a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 and scoring one of Leslie's three runs. Key contributions also came from: Jackson Fossitt (#17): 1-for-4 with a run scored. Easton Hawkins (#12): 1-for-3 with an RBI sacrifice fly. Hudson Phillips (#23): 1-for-2 with an RBI sacrifice fly. Carter Franklin (#16): 1-for-3 on the day.
